Being a town mayor is different from being a congresswoman, so says Congresswoman Gila Garcia.

When she was mayor of Dinalupihan, her area of concern centers primarily on 46 barangays whereas when she was already the representative of the 3rd district comprising the towns of Dinalupihan, Bagac, Morong and Mariveles, things are different now. She has to get out of her way to seek out other local officials to know the problems in their areas. After assessment of the problem, she has to meet with local officials again for proper consultations or public hearing before drawing up plans and possibly, crafting a legislative measure, and eventually, drafting appropriate House Bill and having it filed with the House of Representatives for agenda scheduling.

She learned a lot from her father, the late Congressman and Governor Enrique T. Garcia, Jr. Of course, the assistance of Rollie Rojas who was plucked out from a state bank to work initially as provincial administrator of Dinalupihan was valuable. He now plays a pivotal role in Gila’s congressional efforts and scheduling of activities.

Mr. Rojas also helps a lot in building good rapport with the local media practitioners. He has been coordinating with the media for important coverage of the lady solon’s activities.

Her recent trip to Australia put Bataan and three other provinces to world map when the said country offered to do a study on soil in this peninsula province to find out what crops are suitable and not suitable for Bataan more particularly in Dinalupihan town. The former mayor wants to build Dinalupihan as an agropolis being the only landlocked town in the province.
